Walking In The Fear Of The Lord – A Valid Lifestyle

Abundant life is a product of our reverence toward and respect for the Lord. When we honor the Lord by aligning our ways with His ways, love what He loves, hate what He hates, shun pride, arrogance, sin and negative speech, we are promised entrance to abundant life.

The phrase, “the fear of the Lord”, is one of the most misunderstood phrases in all of Scripture. When the Bible refers to “the fear of the Lord,” it is not referring to terror or anxiety; nor is it referring to the kind of fear that is associated with dread. On the contrary, this kind of fear is defined as “a reverential, awesome respect” for God (Psalm 128:1). Whenever we hear the Bible talking about the word blessed, it actually uses it to mean “empowered to prosper”. Therefore, everyone who walks in the fear of the Lord is empowered to prosper. Once the anointing of the fear of the Lord begins operating in your life, you are empowered to prosper and to be in control in every circumstance.

The fear of the Lord is synonymous with the phrase “walking in His ways” (Psalm 128:1). You cannot operate in the fear of the Lord if you don’t walk in His ways. To learn God’s ways, you must meditate on His Word and spend time with Him. Operating in the fear of the Lord has a powerful and positive impact on your family, income and quality of life. Does that make you want to find out about walking in the fear of God? It does for me!

Walking in the anointing of the fear of the Lord is more than just loving the things that God loves; it also involves hating the things that He hates. Although hate is a strong term, it is the most appropriate emotion to describe how God feels about sin and evil and their effects on the lives of His people. All of the things that are listed in the Bible, pride, arrogance, evil and froward or corrupt speech, bring destruction, heartache, misery and death to God’s people (Proverbs 8:13). When you receive a true revelation of what evil is and what it does, you will understand that hatred toward evil is the appropriate response.

When God forbids fornication and adultery The fear of the Lord, He is not trying to keep you from having fun. He is only against sin because it brings misery, spiritual death and, sometimes, physical death, to those involved in it. He hates sin because He loves you. If you are going to walk in the fear of the Lord, you must hate sin as much as He does. That is really what the fear of the Lord is – identifying and aligning yourself with God’s attitude toward everything. The fear of the Lord is a blessed alliance; by fearing Him, you establish His will as first priority in your life. Some people choose not to walk in the fear of the Lord because they do not realize how it will benefit them. They say, “At least sin brings me pleasure”. When I hear people say things like that, I realize they are ignorant of two things: the wages of sin (death) and the benefits of walking in the fear of the Lord (abundant life).

How would you like to have mighty angels encamped around you at all times, ready to deliver you from trouble? Angelic protection is a benefit of walking in the fear of the Lord (Psalm 34:7-9). I have met hundreds of Christians who desperately try to figure a way out of their negative circumstances. They try everything, not realizing that they can experience angelic deliverance by simply choosing to operate in the fear of the Lord. It should not surprise you that this type of anointing brings deliverance. In fact, that is what anointings do – they remove burdens and destroy yokes.

Life, rest and protection from evil are all benefits of wa1king in the fear of the Lord. When you have the anointing of the fear of Lord working for you, you can sleep peacefully, knowing that evil cannot touch you. Praise God!
